1929 – 2025 A success story

Anyone exploring pool technology today cannot overlook Ospa. This achievement is owed to the Swabian inventor Oscar Pauser, who laid the foundation in 1929. With groundbreaking inventions, numerous patents, and the business acumen of his wife, Lotte Pauser, they laid the foundations for what is now an internationally recognised company. This company significantly shapes the pool industry with innovative products, high quality, and customer orientation.

A success story across generations

In the second generation, with sons Knut and Rolf Pauser, the company continued to thrive. The move to Mutlangen, the construction of a new office building, and the expansion of production provided the necessary capacity to meet rising demand and expand exports. Over the decades, this family business, now run by the third generation, has evolved into a market leader in pool technology with pioneering products.

Today, we share with you in this company chronicle the story of Ospa — from its humble beginnings to becoming a successful, modern medium-sized family enterprise. Despite the growth and successes of the past decades, our philosophy has remained unchanged and is embedded in the company’s DNA: to inspire with quality, good products, and excellent service. In this spirit, we extend our gratitude for your trust—to our customers, business partners, employees, and all friends of the company. The 90th anniversary is both an occasion to celebrate and reflect. However, we also see it as a commitment to carry on the legacy and continue on the path we have set, guiding Ospa into a prosperous future.

1929 – 1939 Oscar Pauser – Always in search of the new

From a young age, Oscar Pauser aspired to become an engineer. After attending the State Higher Mechanical Engineering School in Esslingen, he received the coveted title “Engineer grad” in 1926. That same year, he met his future wife, Lotte Lüllig. He left his parents’ silverware factory and began working in vehicle repair in 1929.

1940 – 1959 From automotive electrical engineering to medical and pool technology

During this time, the inventor was highly creative, developing, manufacturing, and distributing a wide range of medical devices. However, the era of pool technology had already begun, leading the company from one success to another up to the present day. With the development of the sludge lift in the early 1950s, the path to pool technology was set.

1960 – 1969 The Chlorozone Device – An invention with far-reaching consequences

In the early 1960s, the rapid development of numerous products for water treatment and care began, which continue to shape the history of Ospa to this day. The entry of sons Knut and Rolf sparked tremendous growth. This led to significant increases in sales, but soon the production facilities on Wilhelmstraße were no longer sufficient. Therefore, a new property with production halls was acquired in Mutlangen. After relocating the entire production to Mutlangen, the sole proprietorship was converted into a corporation. The most significant event of these days was the granting of the patent for the Chlorozone device, developed since the 1950s, which fundamentally changed the disinfection of pool water.

1970 – 1979 Electronic data processing fuels development

In the early 1970s, the company was equipped with the latest data processing machines. Technologically, the 1970s were a period of numerous new developments, which ultimately secured Ospas position as the market leader in the pool industry.

1980 – 1989 Hotel pools open new market segments

In addition to advancing technology for private pools, the focus shifted to developing larger filtration systems for hotel pools. The multi-layer filtration systems MSF 800 were gradually joined by MSF 1000, MSF 500, and MSF 1250. In 1981, the display, control, and warning system ARW I was introduced to the public, and the capacity of the Chlorozone device was quadrupled by the end of the 1980s. Ospa soon established itself in hotels beyond Germany’s borders, particularly in the Alpine region, where the systems from Mutlangen gained significant popularity.

1990 – 1999 The next generation steps up

In the latter half of the decade, brothers Knut and Rolf Pauser gradually withdrew from day-to-day operations. They had built a modern, well-organized, and healthy company that met all the prerequisites for a successful future. They made way for the new generation, Stefan and Michael Pauser.

2000 – 2009 Digitalization advances

The next generation at Ospa began digitizing pool technology. In 2002, BlueControl® was introduced, the first pool computer with touchscreen operation. With BlueControl®, the water treatment process can be controlled and water quality monitored. BlueControl® can be used in both public and private pool sectors.

2010 – 2019 Energy efficiency and the beginning of web connectivity

The new decade is marked by a societal shift towards the efficient use of our planet’s resources. This applies to the pool industry as well, and Ospa began developing systems that are particularly energy-efficient without compromising water quality. BlueControl® was introduced in its third and fourth generations. BlueControl® IV Web became internet-enabled, making operation via smartphone and tablet a reality. In 2018, the cloud application BlueCheck was introduced at Interbad, enabling remote monitoring of all internet-connected pools.
