Together for a sustainable future
Energy efficiency and climate protection have played important roles at Ospa for many years. We strive to contribute to achieving the climate goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and to stopping climate change. Therefore we have significantly increased our commitment to climate issues as of 2021. To great success: Ospa is the first company in the industry to be climate-neutral.
Ospa is climate neutral – as the first company in the industry
The decision for climate neutrality is the consistent continuation of a fundamental focus for Ospa. For more than 10 years, we have focused on the development of energy-efficient swimming pool water treatment systems. We have achieved a great deal here with our BlueControl control system and energy-optimized filtration systems and pumps. The special Ospa BlueClear® disinfection can reduce required chemicals by up to 75%, to the noticeable benefit of Ospa water quality.
Today, everyone is talking about global warming and about the related carbon footprint. Rightly so, we believe. But just talking is no longer enough. It is time to act.
Michael Pauser, Ospa Schwimmbadtechnik
Because the production of our products also requires energy, we undertook many energy saving measures early. With the conversion to environmentally friendly heating systems and our own PV system, we have already been able to reduce our CO2 emissions by about 15% annually. Thanks to the complete changeover to electricity from renewable sources, we will reduce them a further 10% in 2021.
Sustainability requires commitment
However, a manufacturing company cannot avoid all energy use. For that reason, we enlisted the sustainability consulting company "Fokus Zukunft" to calculate our carbon footprint. This was followed by the development of measures for preventing and reducing CO2. A last measure focused on balancing by participating in certified climate protection projects. On the basis of the determined numbers and through the purchase of a corresponding quantity of climate certificates, Ospa ultimately became climate-neutral and was officially declared a "climate-neutral company.".
Global climate protection
In selecting the supported climate protection projects, we considered not only theCO2 balance, but also incorporated all of the UN's 17 "Sustainable Development Goals." For us, it was important to promote sustainable development in the countries in which projects were supported, to improve people's living situations there and to thereby enable them to act in a more environmentally conscientious way. We therefore supported a forest project in Peru that was certified under the sovereignty of the "Verified Carbon Standard," as well as a water project in Uganda, certified under the sovereignty of the United Nations UN CER and validated by TÜV Rheinland.
Long-term policy of sustainability
As the first company in its industry producing CO2-neutrally, Ospa takes on a pioneering role.
We recognized that we can only effectively counteract climate change with voluntary emissions reductions. We align our actions accordingly.
Stefan Pauser, Ospa Schwimmbadtechnik
By our joining of the "Alliance for Development and Climate," we are also committing to a long-term policy of sustainability. This means that we will pay even closer attention to the sustainability of our products and our water treatment systems in the future.
Yours sincerely, Michael and Stefan Pauser
In addition to water parameters, the award-winning product Ospa BlueControl® 5 Web efficiently controls entire wellness areas. Facts about the competition:
For the tenth time, Callwey Verlag, in cooperation with the German Museum of Architecture and partners Informationszentrum Beton, Interhyp, Atrium/Das IDEALE HEIM, ORF, the magazines Baumeister and architektur aktuell, recently held the "Häuser des Jahres – die besten Einfamilienhäuser" ("Houses of the year – the best single-family homes") competition. The impressively occupied jury chose 50 projects from 150 submissions and, from these, named one prize winner, two awards and five recognitions. In doing so, importance was attached to sustainability, the innovative use of materials, creative handling of structural situations and consistent design. All 50 works and products of the year will be shown in an exhibit at the DAM (German Museum of Architecture) from 10/06/2020 to 01/17/2021.
We are proud to be able to celebrate another major recognition for our 90th anniversary. Following the TOP 100 Award and the Plus-X-Award 2018, we have now been recognized with the German Brand Award.
An award for pioneering brand management
Ospa receives the coveted seal of quality for 2019 in the category of "Industry Excellence in Branding – Heating & Bathroom." The Rat für Formgebung ("Design Council"), initiated more than 60 years ago by the German Bundestag and known as the organizer of the renowned German Design Award, awards this prize to pioneering brands and brand creators – and in doing so, emphasizes the importance of brand management as a crucial success factor for companies.
Exceptional in five categories
Submissions are evaluated according to the criteria of independence and brand-typical features, brand conciseness, differentiation from competition and target group relevance. Brand management should consider aspects such as sustainability, innovation, continuity and future viability. Factors such as the design quality of the brand presence, the homogeneity of the brand experience and economic success also play a decisive role in the judging process.
Of 1250 submissions, a total of 24 companies received the coveted seal of quality in the category of Heating & Bathroom.
Innovations for 90 years
An independent jury of brand experts from a variety of disciplines is responsible for the decision to grant the German Brand Award. It is brand values that have made Ospa a market leader and a driver of innovation in the swimming pool industry: our Swabian, family-owned business has been creating wellness pools since 1929. In order to continually support its reputation as a top innovator in the swimming pool industry, the company invests a great deal into the development of new products and processes. The latest example is the Ospa TopSwim, the first all-in-one counter-current swimming system for all pools.
Thanks to innovation, sophisticated products, sustainability and exceptional quality, Ospa swimming pool technology was honored as the best brand of 2018 in the sanitary industry with the sought-after X Plus Award. In addition, three Ospa products were also recognized by the top-level jury with the Plus X Award for "Best Product of 2018." The Plus X Award represents a significant purchase recommendation for advancement that directly benefits the customer. It's the factor that makes life simpler, more convenient and is ecologically sensible.
The 15th innovation prize for products from the areas of technology, sports and lifestyle recognized the products Ospa BlueControl® IV Web, Ospa PowerSwim 3.5 and Ospa WellSwim in the categories of innovation, design, operating convenience and high quality.

For the 23rd time, the TOP 100 most innovative medium-sized German companies were recognized. For the second year in a row, Ospa Schwimmbadtechnik Pauser GmbH & & Co. KG is part of this innovative elite. The company from Mutlangen first participated in a challenging, scientific selection process. Innovation management and innovative success were examined. The mentor of the innovation competition, Ranga Yogeshwar, honored the top innovators during the Summit of German Mid-Sized Companies on June 24th in Essen.
The success of its innovative products was particularly decisive. Founded in 1929, the family-owned business provides private, hotel and therapy pools with clear and clean water with its water treatment systems. In doing so, the company employs energy-efficient technology and a particularly gentle water treatment process. This not only saves energy, but also prevents the usual chlorine odor. This approach pays off – and not only in Germany. More than 68.000 water treatment systems from Ospa are in operation around the world. The Top innovator is the only company in the industry to use completely in-house productions when building these systems.
In addition to the development of new products, the continuing development of existing offerings is a permanent component of the company's innovation strategy. "There is enormous potential in the products we have already successfully launched, which we continually reinterpret to the benefit of customers," explains CEO Michael Pauser. A number of products were improved by new ideas and considerations this year, as well. Further development of the Ospa Superfilter , for example, produced the new Ospa Filter SuperS , which produce improved filtration results with simultaneously reduced overall height. The Ospa BlueControl® IV Web swimming pool control was provided with new functions, adapted for future requirements. And the new Ospa BlueClear® disinfection systems provide for even more efficiency in water treatment.
"Good ideas and fast, customer-focused implementation play a crucial role for us in competition," said Ospa CEOs Stefan and Michael Pauser at the presentation of the award. "Continually adapting innovation management provides for continually new developments. We rely on the wealth of ideas from our dedicated employees. They are also owed our thanks for achieving the 'Top 100' award again this year."
This demonstrated innovative capacity has made Ospa into a leading manufacturer of treatment systems for swimming pool water. In private, hotel and therapy pools at home and abroad, more than 68.000 Ospa systems reliably perform their services - Ospa develops and produces all components for water treatment at the company headquarters in Mutlangen.
About Top 100
The companies were again evaluated by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Department for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics. They polled more than 100 parameters in five evaluation categories: "Innovation-promoting top-level management," "Innovative climate," "Innovative processes and organization," "Innovation marketing/outward orientation" and "Innovative success."
The TOP 100 represent the pacesetters in their fields. This is documented by the evaluation numbers: the companies include 97 national market leaders and 32 world market leaders. On average, they most recently achieved 40 percent of their revenue with market innovations and product improvements which they brought to market before their competition. Their growth rate was 28 percentage points above the respective industry average. Together, the small and mid-sized businesses registered 2,292 national and international patents over the past three years. This innovative force is also reflected in jobs: The TOP 100 plan to hire about 9.500 new employees in the next three years.
The TOP 100 mentor, the science journalist and TV host Ranga Yogeshwar, is impressed by the quality of the companies and hopes for a signaling effect: "The way that the TOP 100 generate new ideas and develop them into pioneering products and services is remarkable, in the truest sense of the word. That's why I am glad that this award calls attention to these qualities. Hopefully their success will encourage other companies to do the same, because this culture of innovation will become more and more important for all companies in the future."
Small and mid-sized companies have been awarded the 'TOP 100' seal for special innovative strength and extraordinary innovative successes since 1993. Pinnacle celebration at the German Small and Medium-Sized Business Summit in Essen: On June 26th, Ospa management was presented with the "TOP 100" award, as one of the most innovative small and mid-sized German companies, by TV host Ranga Yogeshwar.
The 'Top 100' seal is probably the most well known and most coveted award given to German small and medium-sized companies. The award is based on a two-stage analysis developed by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and his team from the Chair for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics. Scientists examine the innovation management and innovative success of small and medium-sized companies based on more than 100 parameters from five categories.
Ospa's continuous and foresighted innovation work in particular impressed the jurors this year: since the company was founded in 1929, three generations have continually optimized water treatment and anticipated future needs, they concluded. It is precisely this demonstrated innovative capacity that has made Ospa into a leading manufacturer of treatment systems for swimming pool water. In private, hotel and therapy pools at home and abroad, more than 68.000 Ospa systems reliably perform their services, and Ospa develops and produces all components for water treatment at the company headquarters in Mutlangen.
"Our good ideas and their customer-focused implementation are crucial competitive factors for us," said Ospa CEOs Stefan and Michael Pauser at the award ceremony. "That's why we invest a lot of time and effort into our innovation management. We also rely on the wealth of ideas from our employees. They deserve our thanks for earning the 'Top 100' award."
The awarding of the seal is another success for Ospa, after the Ospa BlueControl® III Web and the Ospa PowerSwim 3 were already recognized with Plus X Awards as "The Best Product of the Year" in 2014.
